TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE IS THE RESULT OF A GROUP OF FACTORS: SIZE OF WINDOW OR DOOR, PROFILE USED, WOOD SPECIES, TYPE OF GLASS USED.

The combination of these elements determines the end characteristics of the window or door in terms of heat and acoustic insulation, water and air permeability, resistance to wind deformation. In the table that follows we give examples of the performance of some of the windows and French doors in combination with the types of glass generally used.

AIR PERMEABILITY


This expresses the extent to which a closed window lets air in when there is a difference between indoor and outdoor pressure. There are 4 classes, the “4th” being the highest and recording the lowest rate of air infiltration. The reference standards are EN 1026 and UNI EN 12207.

WIND RESISTENCE


This is the ability of a window, under significant pressure and / or low pressure of the wind, to maintain its properties. The highest class of resistence to wind pressure is “5” and the one considering the best admissible deformation is “C”. The reference standards are EN 12211 and UNI EN ISO 12210.

THERMAL TRANSMITTANCE


The thermal transmittance coefficient Uw indicates how much energy – heating/cooling – the window/door loses through its surface. This parameter is directly proportional to the heat loss that is recorded through the window/door. The reference standard is UNI EN ISO 10077-2

ACOUSTIC MITIGATION


This is the ability of the window/door to provide the interior environment of a home passive protection against noise.
The reference standard is UNI EN ISO 14351-1

WATER TIGHTNESS


This is the ability of the window/door to prevent water seepage under the action of a differential between indoor and outdoor pressure; this parameter is similar to that of air permeability. There are 9 classes of water tightness. The “9th” class is the highest and implies that the window/door is able to prevent the water seepage up to a wind speed of 600 Pascal. The reference standards are EN 1027 and
UNI EN 12208.
